Offering European Expertise at an Indian Cost, Auto Monitor

Caepro wishes to offer a European-US expertise at an Indian cost Managing Director, John Roebuck speaks to Auto Monitor on why the company has set up shop at Pune, and the potential of the Indian market.
Caepro is an engineering services company and we pro¬vide CAD and CAE services to global markets. Our background is from European engineering consultancy and wish to bring these those skills and tech¬niques to India and provide cost-effectives solution to our clients globally.
We have chosen to locate here because of the high levels of experienced and well edu¬cated graduates in engineering available in India, the country's English-speaking ability and as regards Pune, in particular, the city is really the capital of the engineering market. There are great educational establishments here and it is, indeed, an effective place to hire the kind of talent we need.
We have a small team of eight here and working with our global clients. We have only just started to talk to potential clients here in the passenger car, heavy goods, off-highway and two-wheeler space. We have that experience levels across those bands. Indian companies are developing the fastest, they have the money and the requirement to develop their capa¬bilities and I think we can help them do that. What we are trying to provide is a European¬US expertise on quality but at an Indian cost.
Regarding two-wheelers, our focus will be limited but we will concentrate on the four¬wheelers and the commercial vehicle segments but there is a lot carry-over from that side in areas such as structural integrity and durability, stiffness etc. We have been here for a year and a half. The potential in India is, indeed, enormous. As a supply base, our custom¬ers in Europe are very happy with the expertise and quality they are get¬ting from an outsourcing supplier, and at the cost we offer that expertise, which is why we are here in India and also now, India itself is a market for these products and we look forward to help¬ing the major OEMs here develop products for the Indian market itself and as they look to sell glob¬ally, we can help them optimise their products for those markets.
